Data Sharing

Individual pieces of data in the database can be shared among several different uesrs in the DBMS.

Any given user will normally be concerned only with some subset of the total database. That is, a given database will be perceived by different users in different ways)

As an exmaple... consider the example mentioned in centralized control page. In this case, different details corresponding to a particular employee number can be obtained by HumanResources, Finance and Administration differently as follows :

HumanResources perceives the database as a collection of the information about {emp-num, emp-name, emp-qualifiations and employee-project}

Administration perceives the database as a collection of the information about {emp-num, emp-name, overtime-worked and employee-project}

Finance perceives the database as a collection of the information about {emp-num, emp-name, basic-pay and employee-workdays}

In addition to the existing applications sharing the data in the database, new applications can be developed to operate against the samestored data.

As an example, a new application to find out the employee's duration of stay in the enterprise and experience in specific projects can be developed and it can use the same database.
